Make shelf life part of the decision

Stock on hand is only part of the picture. Production and dispatch need to understand expiry, release status and the conditions attached to each customer order.

Keep the recipe and the record together

A change in an ingredient, pack size or manufacturing step can affect the next team. Keep the agreed product information close to the work.

Understand what each batch delivers

Review material use, useful outputs and production costs together. Give operations and finance a shared basis for discussing yield, product pricing and improvement.

Industry capability focus

Designed around the
decisions you make.

Use the business platform and selected industry applications to connect the information, controls and actions your teams need.

01

Freshness, product information and customer requirements

Manage shelf life and configured FEFO picking alongside batch status. Industry capabilities add remaining shelf-life rules, temperature-zone considerations and customer-specific date requirements. Maintain ingredient, allergen and nutritional information with formula and product records, then agree how approved information feeds labels and customer documents. Sensor monitoring and cold-chain integrations are scoped separately.

02

Recipes that connect to the production run

Use manufacturing specifications to bring ingredients and operations together. Selected process applications support batch production, filling and repacking, while production transactions capture consumption and output. Retain the formulation version and relevant batch relationships so teams can review what was intended, what was used and what was produced.

03

A cost view that includes every useful output

Where one process produces several saleable outputs, record main products and byproducts within the production order. Allocate shared costs using an agreed supported method, then review the quantity and value of each output. This makes a practical discussion of resource use, yield and product contribution possible without treating secondary output as invisible.

04

Delivery prepared for the customer

Define packaging materials and structures, review shipment proposals and coordinate shipment orders. Use the appropriate labels and shipping documents for retail, foodservice or bulk delivery. Selected EDI and external warehouse connections can bring trading partners into the process, with document formats, responsibilities and customer requirements agreed during solution design.

02

Produce

Follow the approved recipe, consumed materials and recorded output through the production order.

03

Pack

Review finished quantities, packaging instructions and the relationship between the batch and each pack size.

04

Supply

Check shelf life, customer documents and the recorded delivery, then demonstrate the trace back to ingredients.

Could your team connect a customer delivery with its ingredient lots and quality evidence without rebuilding the story in spreadsheets?
Before you begin

Questions worth working through.

Can we prepare for a targeted recall?

Recorded lot relationships support tracing from purchased material through production and customer shipments. Demonstrate backward and forward tracing against representative transactions, including repacking and any external warehouse. Effective recall preparation also needs reliable capture, clear responsibilities and a tested business procedure.

Can inspections and release decisions be part of everyday work?

Microsoft Quality Management supports inspection templates, triggers and handling of nonconforming stock. Specialist applications can add further sampling, batch and quality depth. Select the combination around your incoming, in-process and finished-product checks, and demonstrate the release or hold decisions that users must follow.

Does ERP certify our food safety programme?

ERP can support traceability, inspection records and controlled processes used within your food safety programme. Certification and regulatory obligations depend on the products, sites, procedures and markets involved. Define the evidence your quality team needs and include those scenarios in acceptance testing.
